It's been that long since I've used OS 3.0, but IIRC there were lots of
minor improvements to ASL with OS 3.5+ (like renaming, make dir, delete in
file requesters, etc.).

It's not meant to be freely available. Why do you think H&P password
protected the last BoingBag? Anyway, when people mix unmatched OS
components, especially those from future OS revisions, they're asking for
trouble.
Look what happened when OS 3.0 users tried to install OS 3.1 datatypes onto
their system, it caused all types of glitches and strange problems.

Just because it hasn't crashed on him yet, doesn't mean it never will. :-)

You're filtering paths in your program? There's absolutely no need IMO.
dos.library provides all the functions you'll ever need for manipulating
paths and filenames. ASCII 255 is probably used by some international
language. ;-)
